Do you feel socially awkward?

It has been a few days since I've had a good, whole-hearted, tears-gathering-in-my-eyes kind of laugh- and then it came back today. And who do I have to thank for it, my pal from the Rite Aid, Latoya. Why I have a pal at the Rite-Aid is a much more complicated story, but it is one of the things that I love about settling into a neighborhood. You get to know everyone around you. You develop a conversation with them. And in ways, you care about their well-being and they about yours. When I go for my daily walks, I like to stop by and wave at the folks at the corner dry-cleaners, stop in the Rite-Aid to visit with Latoya. Seriously, when I thought about moving to a different neighborhood- I thought about how I wouldn't see Latoya as often. That made me sad.

So, today, in my current funky feeling- Latoya called a number and gave me her phone to listen. And I think you should listen too- because somehow, it just made everything feel better.

Here it is:

Cheerwine on Friday Morning

Here is just one of the many reasons I heart Becky. She brings me Cheerwine.

Kicking and Screaming

The last few days, I've watched approximately 7 movies. See, I've been shockingly not busy in comparison to the last year. When I have the time, I like to completely decompress by taking in as many movies as possible. While I enjoyed Pineapple Express and the many others that I will fail to mention (even one completely embarrassing movie that I rented on pay-per-view)- I also watched The Squid and the Whale, which is a film I've seen a few times before. I forgot just how incredibly wonderful, though melancholic, this film is. Noah Baumbach is the writer and director and so I also decided to watch an earlier film of his, Kicking and Screaming.

While I'll probably still settle on liking The Squid and the Whale better- this line is priceless from Kicking and Screaming-

Grover: "I like that you drink. I like a bartender that drinks. Otherwise, I feel like I'm being poisoned."

If I had Twitter...

I would tell Jennie Ann to hurry up, while informing the rest of the world that I'm waiting for her arrival in Nashville. A weekend of honky-tonk'ing, birthday celebrations, and cerveza drinking awaits. Tweet! Tweet!

(FYI- Wait, was that really me...How time moves and changes...)

Loaded Guns and Wildflowers

So, I was just reading about the changes to the credit card industry- yes, it concerns me greatly. I'm pleased to see that something is being done, though I'm not sure (as usual) this completely gets to the root of the problem. Case in point- if one of my (ahem, several) credit card companies sent me a letter informing me the rate would be changing in 45 days- I'm not sure what I would do. I'd more than likely be at the mercy of the company regardless.

Of course, now with tougher restrictions on the cards, I'd be even less likely to find another card that I could transfer this balance to- which in addition would more than likely raise my credit score as I seek a lower percentage...yes, a downward spiral of credit. See, I'm just not sure this solves the bigger issue of why I (and everyone else) has plastic.

But this isn't the funny part- I was reading the article on yahoo and I got to the bottom and read this-

"Included in the bill is an unrelated measure by Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., that would allow people to bring loaded guns into national parks and wildlife refuges."

(Record Skips)

Wait, what? How did this end up included? And why in the world might you need a loaded gun in a national park? I once almost was arrested for drinking a beer on the Blue Ridge Parkway (no, I wasn't driving, thank you very much)...so beer is bad, but loaded guns are necessary. Not to mention, skateboarding and rollerskating is prohibited on the parkway. Oh yeah, and I quote, "picking wildflowers is prohibited."

A Night at the Ballpark

Tonight, Amada and I attended a Sounds game. Tremendous fun, excepting the ridiculous fans who felt it necessary to use various racial-ethnic comments to call out various players. I suspect more games to follow for the two of us.
